College Admission Stats April 4, 2012 Just because admission rates are getting lower and lower doesnt actually mean its getting more and more difficult to get in (photo credit: Patrickneil). Weve shared with you the new Ivy League admissions statistics for the Class of 2016. Weve debunked the myth that admission got more difficult this year at each of the eight Ivy League colleges than ever before. But what were the college admission stats for other highly selective universities around the United States? What about Duke? Stanford? Amherst? Northwestern? Look no further than here. Weve got those stats for you! Duke University and Amherst College both admitted 11.9% of applicants. Northwestern University admitted 15.3% of applicants. Stanford admitted 6.6% of applicants. Just the year before, Stanford admitted 7.1% of its applicants. Berkeley admitted 19.5% of applicants. Just the year before? 25.7%. Thats a significant drop for the UC school! Wesleyan accepted 19.7% of applicants. The year before? 23.3%. Another significant difference.  And how about Georgetown? 16.5% of applicants earned admission this year as compared to 18.1% last year. Pomona? 12.8% this year as compared to 13.6% last year. Williams? 16.7% this year as compared to 17.1% last year. So while not every school experienced a more competitive admissions cycle this year, many highly selective colleges did. But a lower admission rate doesnt mean that the school is admitting stronger applicants each year.   Remember that universities have been expanding their reach to encourage a larger base of students to apply. They do this in the hope of boosting their US News World Report ranking. The more students that apply and the fewer they accept, the lower their admission rate will be. But a student with a combined 900 on his SAT isnt exactly making the field more competitive. You get the idea?
